Twelve Days of Christmas Workout

What better way to spend the last class before the holidays than doing a holiday-themed workout. The only requirement? Don your favorite holiday socks.

Look at these awesome socks!! It was definitely the highlight of the class. Mine even had bells on them.

For the workout, we did the "12 Days of Christmas." The idea is that you do the workout how you would sing the song: on the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...three french hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge---ok you know the rest---but instead of french hens and turtle doves, substitute in planks and other exercises! It was killer. Here's the rundown:

On the first day of Christmas, my instructor gave to meee....

20 seconds of planks!

On the second day of Christmas, my instructor gave to meee....

2 knees to elbows [from the same plank position]

and 20 seconds of planks.

The third day?

3 knee drops [from the same plank position]

2 knees to elbows

and 20 seconds of planks.

Here's the whole rundown:

20 seconds of plank

2 knees to elbows

3 knee drops

4 dolphin dives

5 puuuuuush ups

6 upright rows

7 tricep kickbacks

8 bicep curls

9 reverse flys

10 deadlifts

11 calf raises

12 squats with hand weights

Soreness level: 4 out of 5

Fun level: 5 out of 5!

Afterwards, I led the class in a restorative yoga session, which included lots of shoulder and hip stretching. It's important to add weekly deep stretching and restorative yoga to your fitness routine to stay flexible and help muscle recovery!

Happy holidays to all and I will be back with more fitness advice in 2018!

Mary
